I received this recipe from a dear friend, Stephanie Burg and it has been a welcomed alternative to coffee! Most of us may get upset about the idea of changing our morning ritual until we find out it’s chocolate instead! She suggests aiming to purchase the highest quality ingredients you can find; organic foods have more of their healing properties (including minerals) intact.

To make 3 cups of cacao:  

4 heaping tbsp raw organic cacao powder

1 tsp ashwagandha powder

1 tsp powdered mana root

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Dash of vanilla extract

2 cups filtered water

1 cup milk/non-dairy milk of your choice (I prefer organic coconut milk from the can)

Raw organic honey to taste

(Optional)

1/2 tsp Musroom powder (for an extra boost)

Dash of organic cayenne pepper to taste (if you’re into that)

 

Whisk together all ingredients (except honey) and heat until simmering.

Remove from heat and add honey to taste… perhaps about 1 tbsp.

Stir to blend (or use a frother) and serve. This recipe also makes a DELICIOUS pudding if you’re not in the mood for a hot beverage. Just add cold milk instead of hot water and blend in the blender. Add raw organic avocado for a more mousse like texture.

The cacao powder I love can be purchased at Whole Foods: it’s called Valrhona Cocoa Powder. It’s dark, velvety and divinely delicious. There’s another recommended that’s sourced from a farm in Ecuador that you can find an equivalent of on Amazon, but I encourage you to try a few and see what you like.

Typically I blend all the dry ingredients together and keep them in a container in my pantry. When I’m just serving myself, I place a heaping tbsp in a large mug with vanilla and honey, add boiling water and coconut milk and whisk them all together. It’s quick and easy and doesn’t leave any leftovers. Vegan marshmallows are fun to add as well! Yum!
